Analysis of Work Life Balance and Job Satisfaction in Airline Industry
The most important first step in reaching work-life balance is creating a balanced environment
at home and at work. Many aspects of a person's life are out of balance, which can lead to a
range of detrimental outcomes, such as work-family conflict, health issues, subpar performance
at work, and mental illnesses like depression and stress disorders. In order to preserve one's health
and wellness, finding solutions to balance work and personal life is essential.
An employee's feelings, actions, and attitude toward their employer all affect how satisfied they are with their work. A worker experiences low job satisfaction when they are unsure of a task, which makes them unhappy and dissatisfied with their employment. Long work hours and an excessive workload can also affect job satisfaction, which can lead to a conflict between work and life. The degree of an employee's fulfillment and satisfaction with their work, as well as the degree to which this influences their job performance, are referred to as job satisfaction. Similar to work-life balance, job satisfaction is crucial. Employee happiness has an impact on an employee's attitude and behavior when it comes to contributing to the company, so employers need to be conscious of it and pay attention to it.
The airline industry has an impact on workers' work-life balance because of the limited places and
times they can work in, which requires teamwork to be performed efficiently. Collaboration has an
impact on performance, as even small errors have a detrimental effect on the other team members'
ability to provide high-quality customer service. The aviation industry particularly places a high
value on the pilot profession. The pilot serves as the primary safety precaution while in flight, and
the aircraft's operating conditions have an impact on the pilot's mental workload. The safety of flight
operations will be impacted by how well pilots perform, particularly since they must handle a variety
of stressful situations like handling a lot of information and complicated aircraft technology. Their t
echnical proficiency, physical and mental health, and other well-being concerns are also covered.
Pilot performance was found to be impacted by these factors. Observations regarding the Work
Professional pilots' work-life balance is frequently a source of concern. A positive work-life balance
has a significant impact on an organization's ability to survive as well as the mental and physical
development of its members.
The weather component, which accounts for 13.2% of accidents, the aircraft factor, which accounts
for 27.1%, and human error factors, which account for nearly 66% of all accidents and flight incidents,
are the three factors that cause accidents, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. inaccuracy
caused. Consequently, the aviation industry frequently uses work-life balance in general as a tactic to
promote a rise in work-life balance among pilots [14]. The industry also takes this tactic into account
when hiring new pilots and keeping experienced ones on staff.
If we take a look at the job role of a flight attendant, the typical workday of a flight attendant is not the
same as the traditional "9 to 5" schedule because they work weekends and public holidays, which
means they spend more time at work and less time at home. They also have lengthy layovers during
missions. Achieving work-life balance is therefore more difficult and demanding, particularly for
cabin crew. Therefore, in order to optimize effectiveness and productivity, uphold healthy relationships
with family members, and take care of their own health and well-being, cabin crew members must
maintain their work-life balance.
In conclusion, we could understand that workplace stress and workload are currently major global issues that are receiving attention. In the airline industry, in response to the worst case scenarios resulting from the perceived lack of job satisfaction, businesses or organizations can now take a number of actions, one of which is to establish a work-life balance.
